“The pleasure of unhappiness is particularly Portuguese.”

The destiny of Pessoa's papers + defining saudade @ The Times

Lorrie Moore asks herself what Goldie Hawn would do + describes her ex-husband as a professional asshole in The Guardian

Over the weekend I read Machinal by Sophie Treadwell. I may want to direct it. I definitely want to read it again. It is loosely based on the murder trial of Ruth Snyder, a Long Island housewife who was electrocuted after being convicted of murdering her husband (with help from her lover). At the electrocution, a reporter snuck a camera in, strapped to his ankle.
