Travel Tips

- Sudden downpours--even those falling miles away from your location--can fill canyons and dry riverbeds with a roaring torrent of water and mud that will sweep away everything in its path. Travelers should be especially careful during the summer monsoon season. If rain begins to fall or you see rain clouds in the distance, move to higher ground. It's impossible to outrun or even outdrive a flash flood.

- North America's only venomous lizard [the Gila Monster] looks menacing but is easily recognized and rarely encountered.

- The kissing bug is an unusual looking black insect with an unpleasant bite.
